ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the roles of conventional ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound in distinguishing between benign and malignant thyroid nodules with calcification. Methods A total of 102 solid thyroid nodules with calcification in 76 patients were evaluated by conventional ultrasound alone and conventional ultrasound combined with contrast-enhanced ultrasound. The features obtained through conventional ultrasound alone and that combined with contrast-enhanced ultrasound were scored, and the diagnostic performance of the two methods was analyzed based on the final pathological results. Results The distribution of microcalcification(

ABSTRACT

Objective: To prepare osthole solid dispersions (Ost-SD), osthole phospholipids complex (Ost-PC), and osthole nanosuspensions (Ost-NS), and compare their effects on the pharmacokinetics in SD rats in vivo. Methods: Solvent evaporation method was used to prepare Ost-SD and Ost-PC. Their existential state of Ost in Ost-SD and Ost-PC were analyzed by X-ray power diffraction (XRPD). High pressure homogenization method was employed to prepare Ost-NS, its particle size and Zeta potential were studied. The dissolution in vitro of Ost-SD, Ost-PC, and Ost-NS were also studied compared to Ost suspension. SD rats in each group were ig administered with Ost, Ost-SD, Ost-PC, and Ost-NS, respectively. The concentration of Ost in blood was analyzed by HPLC, and the main pharmacokinetic parameters were obtained. The pharmacokinetic behavior and bioavailability were also been compared. Results: The results of XRPD indicated that Ost showed an amorphous state in Ost-SD and Ost-PC. The average particle size and Zeta potential of Ost-NS were (161.37 ± 3.77) nm and (-29.16 ± 1.83) mV, respectively. The results of dissolution in vitro indicated that the dissolution of Ost was improved greatly by Ost-SD, Ost-PC, and Ost-NS. The results of pharmacokinetics in vivo showed that Cmax, AUC0~t and AUC0~∞ of Ost-SD, Ost-PC, and Ost-NS were enhanced greatly compared to Ost. The bioavailability of Ost-SD, Ost-PC,and Ost-NS were enhanced to 165.92%, 138.46%, and 259.35%, respectively. Conclusion: Ost-SD, Ost-PC, and Ost-NS can enhance the bioavailability of Ost in SD rats notably. In addition, Ost-NS can give a better effect.

ABSTRACT

In order to clarify the chemical constituents of Si-Wu Decoction rapidly and holistically, we analyzed the ethanol extract of Si-Wu Decoction by UPLC/Q-TOF-MSE and UNIFI which based on traditional Chinese medicine database, the probable structures of 113 compounds were identified. The results show that this method can rapidly and effectively characterize the chemical compounds of Si-Wu Decoction and provide a new solution for identification of components from complex TCM extract.

ABSTRACT

Background Endophthalmitis is a serious,sight-threatening condition.Identifying the causative microorganisms is very important for available treatment of endophthalmitis. Objective This survey was to analyze the spectrum of organisms causing culture-proven endophthalmitis and their sensitivities to commonly antimicrobial agents. Methods Medical data of patients with culture-proven endophthalmitis at Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center from January 2003 through December 2010 were respectively reviewed. The outcomes included intravitreal isolates and antibiotic sensitivities were analyzed. Results Four hundred and sixty-nine strains of organisms were isolated from 447 eyes of 447 patients with infective endophthalmitis, including 22 eyes of polymicrobial infection. In the organisms,gram-positive organisms were 241 (51.4%),fungi were 125 (26.7%) and gram-negative organisms were 103 (22.0%).The most common organisms were Staphylococcus epidermidis in 29.4%,Aspergillus in 7.7% and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 5.3%.In this group of infective patients, the most common clinic settings were posttraumatic endophthalmitis (72.7%),and then were postoperative endophthalmitis (10.5%),endogenous endophthalmitis (9.8%) and keratitis (6.9%).Most gram-positive organism and gram-negative organism were sensitive to levofloxacin and cefoperazone. The susceptibility rate of gram-positive organism to chloromycetin was increased in 2007-2010 years compared with 2003-2006 years (x2=5.398,P<0.05).The susceptibility rate to ciprofloxacin of gram-negative organisms declined (x2 =5.398,P < 0.05),but that to rifampicin increased in the duration of 2007-2010 compared with 2003-2006 (x2 =4.500,P < 0.05).Conclusions Gram-positive organisms are the most commonly causative organisms of endophthalmitis. Most bacterial organisms are sensitive to levofloxacin and cefoperazone.Local data of culturing and susceptibility test offers a guideline for the treatment of infectious endophthalmitis.

ABSTRACT

This research analyzed the chemical constituents of Siwu decoction by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS(E). Base on the data of mass and related-literatures, 43 peaks were profiled and 25 compounds, which contain 8 monoterpene glycosides from Paeonia lactiflora and 13 phthalides from Rhizoma chuanxiong and Radix angelica sinensis mainly, were identified in both positive and negative mode respectively. Meanwhile, chemical constituents of water extract and 60% ethanol extract of Siwu decoction were compared by the principal constituent analysis with MarkerLynx software, which provides the basis for the active ingredients of Siwu decoction.
